Importing Your Existing Resume
Upload a PDF or Word document and let AI automatically extract your experience, education, skills, and more into your ResiPage — free for all members.
Already have a resume? The Import Resume feature lets you upload your existing PDF or Word document and uses AI to automatically read it — extracting your work history, education, skills, certifications, languages, references, and social links into structured sections. Review what was found, choose what to keep, and apply it to your ResiPage in one click.
How to Import
- Go to Dashboard → Import Resume in the sidebar.
- Upload — drag your resume file onto the upload zone, or click to browse. Accepted formats: .pdf, .doc, .docx. Maximum file size: 10 MB.
- The AI reads your document and returns a structured list of everything it found, grouped by type (Experience, Education, Skills, etc.), along with any personal information it detected.
- Review — check or uncheck each item. You can also reassign items to a different section using the type badge dropdown (for example, if AI classified something as a Skill but it belongs under Certifications, you can change it here).
- Click Apply Selected Items. Everything you checked is added to your ResiPage dashboard. Items you already have are not duplicated — they are added alongside your existing content.
- Done — your resume sections are now populated. Go to any section to review and refine the imported content, then use the AI rewrite tools to polish individual descriptions.
What Gets Imported
The importer can detect and import:
- Personal info — first name, last name, email, phone, city, state, job title, and professional bio. These always included and update your profile directly.
- Work Experience — company, position, location, start/end dates, and description for each role.
- Education — school, degree, field of study, dates, and description.
- Skills — skill names with proficiency levels (0–100) inferred from context where possible.
- Languages — languages with fluency levels.
- Certifications — credential names and issuing organizations.
- References — name, title, company, email, phone, and relationship.
- Social Links — LinkedIn, GitHub, personal website, and other platform URLs found in the document.
Supported File Formats
- PDF — the most reliable format. AI reads the document natively with full layout awareness.
- Word (.docx / .doc) — text is extracted from the document and parsed by AI. Formatting is stripped, but all text content is preserved.
Tips for Best Results
- Use a text-based PDF if possible — not a scanned image. Scanned documents cannot be read by the AI and will produce poor results.
- Section headers help — resumes with clear headings like "Work Experience", "Education", and "Skills" parse more accurately than free-form documents.
- Review everything — AI is very good at extracting structured data from resumes, but always review before applying. Dates in particular can be tricky in some formats.
- Import is additive — importing does not overwrite existing content. If you have already added some experience manually, new imported entries appear alongside them.
- Use AI Rewrite after importing — once imported, open any experience or education entry and use the Rewrite with AI button to polish the description to your standard.
After Importing
Once your content is imported, head to the Theme page to choose a template (or build a custom layout), then click View Live to see your finished resume page. If anything needs polishing, the AI Writing Assistant is available on every description field.
